I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
- Isaiah 45:2-3
☦️
Note the exactness of expression. He did not say 'opened the gates of brass,' but 'broke in pieces the gates of brass,' in order that the whole prison should become useless. He did not open the bars of iron, either; rather, He cut them apart, in order that the guard should become powerless. Where there is neither door nor lock, there whoever should enter will not be guarded. So if Christ breaks in pieces, who else can repair it? He broke them in order to show that death is finite.
