For himself, Paul has no fear. He is not even afraid of death: "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Phil. 1:21). The apostle even seems to be at a loss what to choose: life or death? "For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you" (1:23).
